Concrete Stencils Add Flair to Any Drive or Walkway

Adding flair to an otherwise drab or usual drive or walkway is becoming more common and accessible, and concrete stencils can help make it happen.

Concrete stencils can be used on concrete that is freshly placed or already overlaid. The stencil is placed over the bed, uncoiling it from a roll. When the stencil is down over the slab, a special concrete stencil roller is used to plaster it to the surface. A colour hardener can be added for hue effect, and/or a texture roller for the desired decorative touch. The worldly European effect of the cobblestone road in any artistic fashion can add functionality, beauty and value to a property, and it looks good.

Concrete stencils can achieve similar results to stamps, and often they take less time and require less effort. They can work successfully with virtually any good concrete flatwork mix. The joints are not pushed into the slab itself, so aggregate size or shape is of no consequence. And since concrete stencils are implemented while the concrete is fresh, there is a much shorter time frame for the operation, resulting in cost effectiveness.

The domestic artist is not limited to exterior concrete stencils either. Interior stencilling is just as accessible, rolling the pattern onto the existing surface and spraying selected areas with a thin decorative coating and finish. The stencil will protect the underlying concrete from the spray application.

Despite few drawbacks such as pattern repetition from a die-cut method, and limited pattern pre-sets, concrete stencils add excitement and artistic flair to flat concrete slabs.
